After a decade-long advocacy for medical cannabis in the Philippines, a bill to legalize cannabis as medicine has been pushed forward to the plenary. Senator Robinhood Padilla sponsored Senate Bill no. 2572, or the Cannabis Medicalization Act of the Philippines, with Senator Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa as its co-sponsor.
Under this proposed bill, the Philippine Medical Cannabis Authority will be established under the Department of Health. This authority will be responsible for crafting the Comprehensive Cannabis Medicalization Plan, establishing regulations, implementing monitoring and regulatory systems, and issuing licenses to registered entities within the medical cannabis industry.
It is worth noting that just a year after BauerTek’s support for cannabis legalization along with its advocates, the proposal swiftly progressed to the Senate.
Mr. Richard Nixon Gomez, Scientist/Inventor and General Manager of BauerTek Farmaceutical Technologies Corp., believes that the Philippines can produce quality, safe, and effective medical cannabis that can surpass other countries.
According to reports, 60 countries have already legalized medical cannabis, and Mr. Gomez has visited some of these countries for his studies.
In the opinion of Mr. Gomez and other medical cannabis advocates, the law to legalize medical cannabis in the Philippines is likely to be approved before the end of the current year.
